Mini-split installation for Flint homes

Design first, then equipment

Mini-splits are one of the most flexible comfort tools we install, and no two Flint jobs are identical. We measure the space, note sun load and insulation, and ask how you use the room before we pick outdoor unit capacity and indoor head style. That keeps you from oversizing a bedroom or underfeeding a great room with tall ceilings.

Multi-zone layouts that stay quiet

We place heads to avoid blowing directly across beds and desks, route line sets along joists and corners where possible, and seal every penetration to the exterior. Most single-zone projects finish in one day; larger multi-zone designs may take longer, and we spell out the schedule up front.

Cold-climate performance

We specify outdoor units rated for low ambient heating when the space needs year-round use, and we commission each indoor head so refrigerant, drains, and controls are verified before we leave.

Why Flint homeowners choose us

  • Licensed & insured

Mini-split installations involve electrical and refrigerant work that must be done right. Our licensed team meets every code requirement.

  • Flexible zoning

We design multi-zone systems that let each room stay at its preferred temperature, eliminating hot and cold spots throughout your home.

No ductwork means less disruption. We run line sets discretely and leave walls, ceilings, and trim looking exactly as we found them.

Mini-split service and support near Flint

After the install

We stay your service resource for mini-splits we install in Flint. Annual visits cover coil cleaning behind the louvers, refrigerant checks, condensate testing, and electrical torques at the outdoor disconnect.

What you do between visits

Rinse or replace filters on indoor heads every one to two months during heavy use. That five-minute habit prevents weak airflow and coil icing that lead to unnecessary service calls.

Add zones when plans change

If you finish a basement or convert a garage later, call us to see whether your existing outdoor unit can accept another head or if an equipment change makes more sense.

Another red-letter day in The Wurlitzerage! Two mini-split (heating and air conditioning) units were mounted on the newly-constructed interior side wall, and connected to the heat pump, which was set on the recently-poured concrete pad behind the building. I can’t say enough good things about Macklin Heating and Cooling!! Not only did they show up precisely on time after unparalleled advance communication, the did a superb installation job, AND sent me a treat shortly after completing their work. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Wayne Macklin called to ask if he could come early (an hour early). We discussed a mini split heat pump convincing me not have him modify it. He then serviced the house AC. We will continue to have him maintain our heating and cooling system. Mark and Virginia Martyn.

I cannot thank Wayne and his son for an amazing HVAC replacement experience. Besides the purchase of my new home 3 years ago, this was the biggest financial investment I have every made. I was nervous and Wayne and his team made me feel extremely at ease. Installation was not as long as expected; couteous and careful. Wayne initially took the time to connect with me, help me understand what type of system I have and all of my options. No pressure to purchase and that made me feel all the more at ease. I was able to initially make a deposit and did not have to pay balance until I was 100% satisfied. I 100% recommend Macklin Heating and Cooling to service all of your HVAC needs. Give them a call.

Wayne and the team were amazing. A quick, honest quote (without pressure or overselling), reasonable timeframe from quote to installation, and a best value price. Add in the unconditional 2 year warranty with the 10 year unit warranty, it can’t be beat. While on the job they were respectful for my home, efficient, and clean. Highly recommended.

Great company! From the quote through installation, everyone very responsive and knowledgeable Had a 45 yr old AC system that needed full replacement. Price was right, they did everything they promised when they promised. It was a particularly difficult installation (previous system was installed after house was built before we owned) and getting all the old junk out of the attic, and new stuff up there was a chore. Installers kept at it till late in the day to get it done. Very happy, highly recommend their work

Macklin Heating & Cooling replaced our A/C unit after system had leaks reflecting manufacturers defects. They completed a difficult install on-time & with minimal disruption to our home by keeping the old system running good for the summer season & replacing the unit in the fall. We highly recommend this company for HVAC.

Ductless comfort where ducts do not reach

Additions, garages, bonus rooms, and older Flint homes with no good path for supply ducts are natural fits for mini-splits. Indoor heads mount high on a wall or in a ceiling cassette, and refrigerant lines run to a compact outdoor unit, often quieter than a window shaker.

Design beats brand hype

We start with load, sun exposure, and how you use the space. Oversizing a mini-split creates short cycles and muggy air; undersizing never catches up on design days. Read the broad strokes on mini-split installation, then let us translate that into a layout for your floor plan.

Installation day expectations

You will see small wall penetrations for line sets, outdoor mounting on a pad or bracket, vacuum and charge practices that meet manufacturer spec, and a walkthrough of remote or app controls before we leave Flint.

Long-term care

Filters on indoor heads need regular rinsing. Once a year we check drains, test electrical connections at the outdoor unit, and verify refrigerant trends so small issues do not become compressor failures.

Frequently asked questions

Is a mini-split a good choice for a home in Flint, MI?

Yes. Mini-splits work well in Michigan's climate, especially for homes without existing ductwork, room additions, garages, or spaces where extending ducts is impractical. Cold-climate models handle Michigan winters effectively.

How many zones do I need?

Most homeowners start with one to three zones targeting the rooms they want to control independently. We help you design a system based on your floor plan, sun exposure, and comfort priorities.

How is a mini-split installed, and will there be holes in my walls?

Each indoor unit requires a small hole (typically three inches) through the exterior wall for the line set. Our installers route lines discretely and seal all penetrations properly. Most installations require no significant wall work.

What brands do you install?

We install systems from trusted manufacturers with proven cold-climate performance. We will recommend the right brand and model for your budget and application during your in-home consultation.

Do mini-splits require regular maintenance?

Yes. The air filters in indoor units should be cleaned every one to two months, and a professional service visit once a year keeps refrigerant, coils, and drainage in good condition.

Do you install mini-splits in areas near Flint?

We serve Genesee County and surrounding communities, including Brighton, Howell, Hartland, Byron, Flint, Durand, Flushing, Holly, Davison, and nearby cities. Call to confirm we cover your address.

How noisy are indoor heads compared to a window unit?

Quality mini-splits run at low fan speeds with sound levels similar to a quiet conversation. We help you pick head locations and models that keep airflow off beds and desks so noise stays in the background.

Can you add a zone later if we start with one head?

Often yes, if the outdoor unit is sized for future heads and we leave sensible line-set routing. During design we can talk through a phased plan so you are not boxed in after the first install.
