Heat pumps are a versatile option for many Michigan homes. Instead of burning fuel for every degree of heat, they move heat between indoors and outdoors—often delivering efficient cooling in summer and dependable heating in winter when the system is sized and installed correctly.
Whether you are upgrading from older equipment or planning a new build, we evaluate your layout, insulation, and comfort goals. We also stay available for furnace installation and repair
and traditional heating service when your home uses a furnace alongside or instead of a heat pump.
Benefits of heat pump systems
Homeowners across Genesee County and surrounding communities choose heat pumps for efficiency, comfort, and one outdoor unit serving both seasons. The right design matters: duct capacity, refrigerant line length, and auxiliary heat all affect performance.
Energy efficiency
— moving heat can use less energy than generating it alone, especially in milder conditions and with proper maintenance.
Year-round comfort
— one outdoor unit pairs with indoor equipment for both heating and cooling, simplifying your HVAC plan.
Flexible applications
— strong fit for many layouts, especially when paired with zoning or supplemental heat for extreme cold snaps.
Why work with us for heat pumps
Efficient year-round
One system for heating and cooling can simplify comfort and operating costs when matched to your home. We look at insulation, duct leakage, and how you use each floor so your heat pump is not fighting the building.
Cold-climate options
Modern heat pumps work in a wide range of conditions—we match equipment to Michigan winters and humid summers, not a generic catalog chart. That means backup heat or hybrid setups when your home needs them.
Straightforward guidance
We explain how a heat pump would perform in your space, what to expect on utility bills, and how maintenance differs from a furnace-only home—so you can decide with confidence.

What our customers say about our heat pump work
Another red-letter day in The Wurlitzerage! Two mini-split (heating and air conditioning) units were mounted on the newly-constructed interior side wall, and connected to the heat pump, which was set on the recently-poured concrete pad behind the building. I can’t say enough good things about Macklin Heating and Cooling!! Not only did they show up precisely on time after unparalleled advance communication, the did a superb installation job, AND sent me a treat shortly after completing their work. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Wayne Macklin called to ask if he could come early (an hour early). We discussed a mini split heat pump convincing me not have him modify it. He then serviced the house AC. We will continue to have him maintain our heating and cooling system.

From start to finish Wayne and Mike are informative, honest, fair, attentive, and just top notch people to work with. They take the upmost pride in their work and it shows, I highly recommend them. If you’re not getting your ducts cleaned and HVAC work from them, what are you doing? 🤣 Thank you guys sooo much!

Before today, I had never had Air duct and vent cleaning completed in my home. There are many businesses in the area who provide this work. Looking online, Mackin Heating & Cooling was my first call, and I didn’t have to call anyone else! They were responsive and prompt. Mike went through all of the duct areas on the house with me, explaining all that would be done, and then provided a quote. He was knowledgeable, friendly and answered all of my questions. He came back to do the work a few days later. On the day of, Mike again explained everything that would be done. Afterwords, he also provided me online before and after photos of the results. I am so glad I to have chosen Mackin Heating & Cooling and I HIGHLY recommend them!

Wayne was very nice, professional and knowledgeable. He checked out the furnace, told us what he thought was causing the problem. He was correct in his diagnosis and the furnace is back to normal. It’s an old furnace and replacement is in the near future, despite that, no high pressure to sell us a new unit. Wayne answered all my questions, would recommend him and Macklin Heating and Cooling to anyone.in need of service or a new appliance.

I cannot thank Wayne and his son for an amazing HVAC replacement experience. Besides the purchase of my new home 3 years ago, this was the biggest financial investment I have every made. I was nervous and Wayne and his team made me feel extremely at ease. Installation was not as long as expected; couteous and careful. Wayne initially took the time to connect with me, help me understand what type of system I have and all of my options. No pressure to purchase and that made me feel all the more at ease. I was able to initially make a deposit and did not have to pay balance until I was 100% satisfied. I 100% recommend Macklin Heating and Cooling to service all of your HVAC needs. Give them a call.

Frequently asked heat pump questions
How does a heat pump differ from a traditional heating and cooling setup?
A heat pump provides both heating and cooling in one system by moving heat between indoors and outdoors. Traditional setups often pair a separate furnace and air conditioner. Heat pumps are a strong fit for many homes, especially when sized and installed correctly for our climate.
What should I consider when deciding if a heat pump is right for my home?
Think about your insulation, layout, comfort goals, and how you use different rooms. Heat pumps excel in many situations; we assess your home and recommend options that balance efficiency, comfort, and budget.
